Our Shepton Band Directors
Our wonderful Shepton Band is led by two talented directors, Mr. Zach Shirley and Mr. Ian Aigner-Varoz.
HEad Band director, Mr. Zach Shirley
Zach Shirley is in his 12th year of teaching and his 10th year as a band director at Shepton High School. He is also the Music Team Lead for the Shepton High School Music Department.
Mr. Shirley is the Director of Bands and oversees all ensembles. He directs the Wind Ensemble and the "Sound of the Pack" Marching Band. Mr. Shirley also assists with the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and the Shepton Symphony Orchestra.
Following high school at Plano West, he attended the University of North Texas and graduated in 2012 with a B.M. in Music Education with a focus on secondary instrumental education. He is a member of TMEA, TBA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a national music fraternity. He enjoys running, working out, playing Pokemon Go!, spending time with friends and his cats, and he plays flute and piccolo with the Plano Community Band.
Associate Director, Mr. Ian Aigner-Varoz
Ian Aigner-Varoz is extremely excited to be joining the Shepton High School Band team as the new Associate Director! Mr. Aigner-Varoz is the director of the Wind Symphony and the Shepton Jazz Band. He also works with the "Sound of the Pack" Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and the Symphonic Band.
Mr. Aigner-Varoz is a recent graduate of the University of North Texas, earning a degree in Music Education in December 2023. As a trumpet player, Mr. Aigner-Varoz was involved in many different ensembles during his time at UNT, including the Green Brigade Marching Band, Concert Band, Brass Band, and Wind Ensemble. During the fall of 2023, he served the students of Carroll ISD as their student teacher. Mr. Aigner-Varoz is also a proud alumnus of the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, earning the silver medal in 2022.
He currently serves as a solo cornetist in the esteemed Dallas Brass Band. During his free time, Ian enjoys weightlifting, building with LEGO (especially LEGO Star Wars), and walking his Chihuahua mix, Rosie. He resides in Allen, Texas, with his partner, Abby.
